Game On!

Updated: Nov 1, 2021

Aren’t we all itching to get outside and get back in touch with our competitive spirit? Just steps from my house, there is a huge park, all 8 tennis courts, basketball courts, 3 softball fields, lacrosse and soccer fields are constantly filled to the brim with enthusiastic athletes excited to be reunited with their teams. And guess what the bleachers and sidelines are filled with? Parents, spectators, and cheerleaders, all just so happy to be out of the house socializing once again!

And hey, I think we all know what’s really in those red solo cups! 🤣 And why not enjoy a hot dog, as well? With a line around the block, the hot dog man may need to add a cart, or hire another employee to keep up with the demand! Now take this example of my town in NJ, and see where you can apply it near you. What trends can you see? Drum roll - Jessica Perrone is about to go down a rabbit hole!

Brain Dump Begins Now

When I see tennis courts, I think of tennis clothes and sneakers, which leads me to my favorite Nike (Ticker: NKE) tennis shoes and skirt. But why stop there? Nike has hundreds of different products and sporting goods on the market - Just think, what in your athlete's closet has the Nike swoosh on it? A major distributor of Nike (Ticker: NKE) is Dicks Sporting Goods (Ticker: NASDAQ DKS), but Dick’s doesn’t just carry Nike– they also carry other sporting brands as well… Tennis - check! Baseball - check! Softball - check! Soccer - check! Lacrosse - check!

What's really in those Red Cups?

Then I think of those parents with red Solo cups. After some research, I find they are owned by Dart Container which is a private company. So that rabbit hole is a sort of a dead end since shares of private companies aren’t traded on the public market. But then I think about Costco (Ticker: COST) and their mega size Kirkland Brand “BIG RED CUP,” because we’re not fooling around! This opens the door to Diageo (Ticker: DEO), the parent company of Tanqueray (Gin and Tonic Please!), Captain Morgan (Rum and Coke Please!) Ketel One (Ketal One and Cranberry Please!) and Crown Royal (Who drinks Crown in a Solo cup?!?).

And, last but certainly not least, a hot dog to coat that stomach from our favorite local hot dog guy who probably buys his Hebrew Nationals, Parent Company, Conagra Brands, (Ticker: CAG) and Hotdog buns at Costco (Ticker: COST) too. Finally, some Lays potato chips, produced by Pepsi - (Ticker: PEP) and a Coke (Ticker: COKE), because we can’t forget about the kids too.

Sports ETF?

Head spinning? To simplify things, Roundhill Investments recently launched a broad sports industry ETF (Ticker: MVP) aimed at companies that own/operate professional sports venues and facilities. A few of the companies included are Madison Square Garden Sports Corp (Ticker: MSGS), Manchester United (Ticker: MANU), World Wrestling Entertainment (Ticker: WWE), and Nike (Ticker: NKE).

This is where my brain went as soon as I thought of my local park. Investment ideas are all around you; don’t be afraid to ask questions!

Remember, as always, do your own research. Just because I mention certain securities in a segment does not mean I am recommending it. Some of the stocks and ETFs covered in newsletters are trading at recent or all-time highs, so you may want to just bookmark those stocks, get to know them, and wait for an opportunity to get involved.
