Let it go!

In basketball, a breakaway is when someone recovers the ball from the opposing team and sprints to their end of the court because there are no defenders.

It is my understanding, from watching countless girl’s AAU basketball games, the defending team has one of three options:

1.Run faster and get in front of the breakaway player

2.Chase the ball down and foul the player

3.Just let it go

In the final minutes of my daughter’s championship game, her coach reminded the girls that the cost of a foul outweighs the benefits of stopping the girl from scoring and to “just let it go.”

I was reminded of this moment when I saw a stock I wanted to invest in but had missed a good entry. The price had risen rapidly. I told myself, “Don’t chase the stock price up; there will be other opportunities. The cost outweighs the return”. In the wise word of coach… “Just let it go.”
